Walter S. Barr Scholarships
These awards for undergraduate education are made annually to graduating high school seniors. They must be residents attending public or private secondary schools in Hampden County, Massachusetts. The awards are given based on school records, college entrance examinations, general accomplishments, recommendations and financial needs. The annual award is $2,500 for a maximum of four years. The deadline for filing applications is December 20, 2012.
William R. Rooney Awards
These scholarships are named for Williams R. Rooney, a long time educator and former Executive Secretary of The Horace Smith Fund, who advocated for assistance to special needs students. These scholarships are offered to graduating high school seniors who have been on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for a minimum of two years. They must be residents attending public or private secondary schools in Hampden County, Massachusetts intending to attend either a two or four year college. The applicant should be in the top 5% of the special education class, demonstrate financial need, and have made an extraordinary contribution to the high school. The Walter S. Barr Scholarship form must be completed and identified as a William R. Rooney Award application. The annual award is 2,500 for the maximum of four years.
