Walter S. Barr Scholarships For Students In High School

These awards for undergraduate education are made annually by the Scholarship Committee to residents of Hampden County, MA who are members of the senior class at their local public or private secondary schools.

Awards are based on school records, college entrance examinations, general attainments and financial need. Awards will be continued through the four year course if the student’s record and need justify such continuance.  Awards will be made on the basis of all available information, including school records, recommendations and examination scores.  Consideration will be given to both the merit and financial need of the applicant.

Walter S. Barr Scholarship For Students In College

Barr Scholarships are also available to students currently attending college. Second and third year students often require a greater degree of financial assistance than do first year students. Therefore, the Fund offers scholarships to college students resident in Hampden County (MA) who are graduates of Hampden County secondary schools. Awards will be made on the basis of all available information, including school records, recommendations and examination scores.  Consideration will be given to both the merit and financial need of the applicant.

Walter S. Barr Fellowship

In general applicants must be residents of Hampden County. If residency is in question, the Fellowship Committee reserves the right to make this decision. Awards are made to students pursuing a specific post-graduate degree. If that degree program requires more than one year of full time study, the award can be renewed for as many as two additional years, if warranted.  Awards will be made on the basis of all available information, including school records, recommendations and examination scores.  Consideration will be given to both the merit and financial need of the applicant.
